ALLISON CRANMER'S Team In Training Page
I run because I can, for those who can't
Welcome to my Team In Training home page!
I am training for the Vermont City Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. My goal is to raise $3,000 to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkins lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. While my husband David is my Honored Patient (and a 5-year leukemia survivor), I am running this marathon to honor everyone who is battling blood cancer, and in memory of those who are no longer with us. With your support, we can help make sure that everyone has a chance to cross the ultimate finish line - cure!
This year, Dave and I are celebrating his 5-year survival. When he was first diagnosed, his doctor told him that if he chose to do nothing, he would die in 5 years. Not liking that option, Dave had a bone marrow transplant in March of 2000 with marrow donated by is brother Jon. He has beaten the 5-year odds. Now, he sees every day is a gift. A day he wouldn't have if it weren't for the treatment options and drugs available to help cure his leukemia.
There are new and better treatments being developed all the time, thanks to research funded in part by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Your donation will help this research continue; provide financial assistance for patients faced with expenses related to their treatment; make available information and resources to help them make decisions about what treatment is best for them; and sustain support groups for patients and their families.
If you've ever needed the support of an organization like the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, you know how valuable it. In the darkest hours after diagnosis, when you don't know anything about your disease or whether you're going to die, having someone to call who can offer support, answers and hope is invaluable. I hope you never need such an organization. But if you do, know that it is because of the generosity of people like you, who supported people like me, that the organization is there for you.
On behalf of all blood-cancer patients, thank you for your support.
