Racing to Save Lives

Finishing my first half marathon!

"You run races and raise money. What I had yet to learn — and what people who'd done this before already know — is that it isn't just about fixing a problem, or doing something for somebody else. Sometimes, it's about healing a hurt inside. It's that sometimes by making your body hurt on the outside, the hurt on the inside begins to heal." - Aja Albiar

That's a quote from one of my best friends and the person who got me to run this crazy event we call a marathon! After having a few very rough months personally and emotionally. I've found some great solice in knowing the money we raise here goes to help so many people I will never meet. So help me help them!

Hi everyone, I am training to participate in the Country Music Marathon/Half Marathon April 26, 2008 in Nashville, as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. Before all of you gasp out loud and wonder why I'm doing this, or what cause am I doing this for, I thought I would tell you! Everyone involved with Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers.

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.

If there's someone you know affected by these diseases let me know and I will run in their honor. You all should know this is my first "competitive" run as I usually bike but the opportunity to push and do something I never have done before to help people who are going through something they will never have to go through again was important to me.

I hope you'll visit my web site often (And DONATE more often!). Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Also check to see if your comapny makes matching donations. This could double the amount of your donation amount and help get us to our goal! Thanks for your support!

Where your donation goes:

-$50 will register 1 person to be a bone marrow donor.

-$100 will pay for the cost of 4 patient's chemotherapy drug prescription co-payments.

-$300 will train 25 peer volunteers who can provide emotional support to newly diagnosed patients.

-$500 will provide patient aid to a person with Leukemia or a related cancer for a year.

-$1000 allows patients to meet with health care specialists to design and discuss their disease, treatment plan and prepare them with the info they will need during the treatment process.
