Dear Friends and Family,
I am eager to share with you a goal of mine that I will soon be accomplishing. I am training to run my first marathon. On December, 10th 2006, I am running the Honolulu Marathon in Honolulu, Hawaii with the New York City Chapter of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This physical challenge has always been a goal of mine. In college I chose to pursue other interests, mainly ski racing, and did not have the opportunity to train for a distance running event. No complaints!! Now I have the opportunity to do something extraordinary for myself and for a good cause. It is a project that I would like to share with you.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training program is an illustration of how essential it is for those who can help to do so. The Team In Training program started 17 years ago when the survival rate for blood cancers was less than 50%. Through the years and with the help of wonderful people like yourselves, the survival rate for childhood leukemia has risen to 85%. While these results are certainly remarkable, the goal is 100%.
Although I am raising money to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma foundation and running to help everyone who suffers from these terrible diseases, I am dedicating my training and marathon to the memory of my Grandmother, Rose Freed, who suffered from Lymphoma. Bubba Rose was an exceptional person, mother and grandmother. It is her stubbornness that I inherited, that will likely be the reason I finish on December 10th.
My goal is to raise at least $5,200 to be used for research to find a cure for Leukemia, Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and Melanoma. I am asking for your support. Any and all contributions will be greatly appreciated, and your donation is 100% tax deductible. Please return your contribution along with the enclosed donor form by November 10th, 2006. Checks should made payable to “The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society”. Online donations are also accepted by visiting the link listed below.
