Racing to Save Lives
Hello, big-hearted and generous friends!
This spring, I’ll be racing my first Half-Ironman triathlon in Orlando, Florida. Why swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles and then run 13.1 miles, you ask? In Florida’s springtime heat and humidity, no less?
It’s simple: Her name is Marie-Eve Piche and she’ll be racing beside me.
M-E was diagnosed in 2004 with Acute Myolegenous Leukemia. AML once had a survival rate of only 19.7%, but researchers found a treatment for her type of AML in 1996, increasing her chances of survival to 70%.
This important research would never have been possible without funding, and that's where you come in. I NEED YOUR HELP! I'm racing Disney as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training and raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. While M-E and I challenge ourselves both mentally and physically to prep for this race, this pales in comparison to what so many patients have to endure.
My goal is to raise at least $4400. Won’t you sponsor me? Pretty please? It’s 100% tax deductible, so why not make things simple and donate $100? (All contributions are greatly appreciated/not sneezed at.)
Tell your friends! Don't be shy! (I'm not...) Thanks, Betsy
PS As for M-E, she's doing great! Not only will she'll finish her first Half-Ironman this year, she'll finish her long-term chemo regimen, too. Yeehaw!
