Running to Save Lives
January 5, 2007 will mark the 30th anniversary of the day that, at the young age of 30 years old, my father lost his battle with leukemia. Because I was only 4 years old at the time of my dad's death, I didn't fully appreciate how devastating his loss was to our family. Now that I'm a father to my own son, Nate (pictured to the right), the thought of this disease prematurely taking another life is simply unacceptable to me.
So in honor of my dad's memory, and with the hope that my fundraising efforts will fund the research needed to conquer and eliminate this terrible disease, I've decided to join The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
Since early December, I've been training a few days per week in anticipation of participating in (and finishing!) the Country Music Marathon in Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday, April 28, 2007. The terrific team of coaches, trainers and mentors at Team in Training will be doing their part to help prepare me physically so that I'm able to cross the finish line. But that's not all that needs to be done between now and the end of April, which is where you come in.
As rewarding as it will be for me to cross the finish line in Nashville, it will be increasingly special to know that, by doing so, I've helped raise desperately needed funds to fight these awful diseases. So please join me as I embark on this journey. I'll take care of the pre-dawn distance running in the snow.....I just need your generosity! Thanks for your support!
Love, Tom
