Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I am training to participate in the Nike Women's Marathon taking place on October 21, 2007 in San Francisco, CA. I am training as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
I am running for three extraordinary women. In the summer of 2003, a family friend's daughter, Priyanka passed away to leukemia. For an eight-year old child, she faced so many obstacles that would have deflated any human soul. And yet, pictures of her would always show this beautiful and radiant smile as she lay in the hospital bed. She wanted to be a "normal" kid and her family granted her wish by letting her compete in tournaments of her favorite sport, chess. Her ability to see beyond the pain and live a carefree life is her legacy that continues to inspire me.
I grew up with the second friend who I am running for. Doctors diagnosed Kavita with type 2A Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2004 towards the end of her college career. Nothing stopped this musical talent from continuing on and living her dreams. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Music at the prestigious Boston Conservatory and studying under soprano Sara Goldstein. In 2005, my third friend, Archana, was diagnosed with type 4A Hodgkin's lymphoma. She is graduating this year with a Masters in Public Administration and is deciding how she will save the world either through law, teaching, or research. Both of these women continue to amaze me with how they fought and continue to fight the cancer, still found time to pursue their passions, and inspire others with their attitude that quitting is not an option.
I am honored that my life crossed these three individuals' life paths. On October 21, 2007, I will wear an Honored Teammate bracelet for each one, and when the going gets tough, I will think of them.
I need YOUR help in finishing this marathon. My goal is to raise at least $7500 by September 15, 2007. Please think big and give as generously as you can, even $25 helps out.
I've created a website to keep track of my progress, at http://runchairun.blogspot.com. I hope you'll visit my web site often. Thanks for your support! It means a lot to me.
