Nashville Country Music & San Diego Rock & Roll Marathons
Not 1, But 2 Marathons
Yes, you are reading that correctly. I am not running 1, I'm running 2 Marathons. Back to Back marathons in 5 weeks! Nashville's Country Music Marathon (Sat April 28th 2007) and San Diego's Rock & Roll Marathon (Sun June 3rd 2007).
So...why am I running? Three reasons.
1 - I work at the NYU Clinical Cancer Center's Hematology Department. I'm completing this marathon in honor of the patients who I interact with daily. I see first hand the difference the money I raise makes. I have seen some of these people go from weak & wheelchair bound due to chemotherapy, to walking in with a full head of hair and a huge smile on their face thanking us for saving their life. As if batttling cancer isnt enough, these people deal with the stress of everyday life such as bills & family like the rest of us. So running a marathon (or 2) is nothing compared to what they have to endure.
2- My grandmother was diagnosed & treated for Pancreatic & Bile Duct Cancer. Although she survived the procedure, we were told she would have about a year left to live. During her hospitalization, one of the things that did cheer her up was when I showed her my first marathon medal and told her that I raised money for people with cancer. To this day she still thinks I won since I received a medal. I tell her I was one of the last to finish and everyone gets a medal, but she doesn't believe me. The medals bring a smile to her face so I try to bring home as much medals.
3 - I set a goal for myself to raise $22,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma society in 2007. I might not get it done in one race only...it might take several races & fundraisers but I will do it!
All of us at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.
The Marathons takes place on Saturday April 28th 2007 & Sunday June 3rd 2007. You can visit my running blog at See Cisco Run! to check my progress. Thanks for your support!
