Ash's Race for a Cure
Racing to Save Lives
I did it!!! (and lived to tell the tale). I finished the 26.2 mile course in San Francisco on 21st Oct. It was a experience I will never forget - the people, the scenic course route, the atmosphere and most of all the cancer patients who were cheering us along.
Running and completing a marathon was as far from my mind as it is for most people and those who know me can testify to that. However, running and completing a marathon for a cause which has helped and continues to help thousands of cancer patients inspired me to do my little bit to help find a cure and end this disease forever.
As you may or may not know, Leukemia is the #1 killer of children and yound adults under 20. It also affects many adults sometimes coming completely out of the blue. Although the cause of blood cancers remains unknown, recently developed treatments and steady advances in research brings us closer to a cure everyday. The fact that many of these survivors are joining me in running the marathon is a testament to the advances made in the field.
Over the last year I have personally know of several people whose lives have been irrevocably changed by various forms of cancer. Amongs them have been a work colleague who survived and an aunt who is still battling against it. Others sadly did not make it but have proven an inspiration to me. To be sure when the going gets tough during training and during the marathon I will be thinking of them and everyone who has been affected by this disease.
I am running the San Francisco Marathon on October 21st 2007. My goal is to raise $4000 for this great cause. Any little or large donation is welcome and will help to carry on the fight against cancer.
