Let's Celebrate....5 Years in Remission!
Health is a gift!
As most of you know, I am a cancer survivor. Being diagnosed in my early 30's with Hodgkin's Lymphoma caused an unexpected detour in my life. It meant a year away from my life in NYC with a hopeful healthy return. Little did I know it would be the beginning of some amazing opportunities. It started with Team in Training only days after completing treatment. It seemed to be the perfect way for me to resume my NYC life by getting involved with an organization that had saved mine. After I joined TNT, I set high expectations by racing in my first Olympic triathlon only 4 months after completing treatment. That was just the beginning - the Olympic led to a half Ironman, which led to 2 full Ironmans only 2 and 3 years out. Crossing the finish line at Lake Placid was almost surreal... I had achieved something great - proving I could be better and stronger than before while providing hope to so many. It was definitely a milestone in my life and one that would not have been achieved without the never-ending support of my family, friends, coaches and doctors. This is my 7th season with Team in Training and I am still raising money and crossing the finishing line for others. This Spring I am the honoree for the New Jersey marathon and will be racing with my fellow teammates and friends to celebrate my 5 years in remission. A cure may not be in the near future, but continuing to improve treatments give so many the opportunity to live in remission - that is truly a gift. What an incredible journey it has been so far....thank you for being part of it!
