Mary Gibbins' Team In Training Page

Here I go again ...

I can do it ... I can do it ... I can do it ...

My goal this summer was to walk a full marathon. Well, as they say, "Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans." I continued to train with what I *thought* was the flu until I was finally diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. SO WHAT?!?! My doctor agreed that I could still train for the Half Marathon in Dallas this Fall, so that's what I'm doing.

Why am I doing it? Because leukemia is still the leading cause of death of children between the ages of 1-14 and still takes the lives of 50,000 people each year and that still makes me mad as hell. Things are looking up, though. In 1960, only 3% of leukemia patients were cured. Today, in large part due to the funding for valuable research provided by The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the cure rate for childhood leukemia has risen to about 72%. A cure for leukemia would mean great strides in curing all cancers since leukemia research is considered to be the window to the treatment and cure for other cancers and AIDS. With your help, we can find the cure.

I still walk in honor and memory of Alaina Enlow -- Alaina's Page. I also walk in honor of Greg Pierce, Channa (Brewer) Lawson, Ty Jones, Pat Soper, and Ty Underwood. And in memory of Jim Munzig, Haney Cannon and sweet little Sydney, only 5 years old.

My goal, as I train for the marathon, is to raise $1,760 toward the development of a cure. This is the $1,600 for the Dallas Half, plus 10%. Please join me in this great challenge. Simply send your tax-deductible donation by clicking on any of the amounts to the right. Any amount you can give would be greatly appreciated. If everyone who sees this page would just sent $5 to $10, I could more than surpass my goal.

Thank you so very, very much and please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions: mgibbins@charter.net. With your help, there will be a cure for leukemia and other blood-related cancers.

Thanks again, so very much.
