I'm always digging myself out of a hole (pic of me in Cozumel).

Well, you’re here now. So let me start by saying thank you. Just by checking out my donation site means a lot, but I still need your help. So get comfortable and let me tell you a little about what’s going on.

Some time in August I decided to run a triathlon to help raise money that will be used to fight against blood cancers. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) raises funds to help find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma. For those who know me personally, know that my reason for fighting against cancer doesn’t begin or end with the aforementioned forms of cancers, it goes beyond those. So in order to help fight the good fight, I’ve joined an organization called Team in Training (part of LLS), the world’s largest endurance sports training program.

Now, if you were paying attention when you read the previous paragraph, then the word triathlon is probably still in the back of your mind. And you’re probably thinking that I have no business competing in a triathlon. Well, that might have been the case at one time, but on April 1, 2007, I will be competing in the Lavaman Triathlon (www.lavamantriathlon.com) in Kona, Hawaii whether I like it or not. If you would like to help me fight cancer while simultaneously working to cross the finish line, please MAKE A CONTRIBUTION by selecting an amount from the list on the right side of this page (or specify your own amount). But don’t forget to click DONATE before you take off.

The next few months will be long and hard as I train for this event, so I will certainly be working for every penny you graciously donate. My goal for this event is to raise $10,000. Every little bit helps. As I endure the rigorous training regimen and prepare for the adventure, which will most definitely change my life, I hope you will tag along and be a part of it. If you would like to keep up with my training, I will be keeping a blog and updating it frequently. Trust me, you’ll want to check it out on occasions. My friends and I are pretty easy to laugh at (notice I said laugh “at”, not “with”).

You can find the blog at http://kevinmangum.blogspot.com/. Add it to your favorites page and visit every once in a while.

Also, as you’re sitting around the company water cooler making fun of “this guy you used to know” who is attempting to swim through the ocean, cycle through the mountains and then run farther than I usually drive at any one time, send them to this site. Those who are fighting cancer and those attempting to raise money could really use their support (in whatever form) as well. Thank you for your donation.

Party on. We’re going to Hawaii.

Aloha (that also means goodbye),

Kevin Mangum
