Racing to Get Thin & Save Lives Website
Funny story - my business partner, Bret Starr, returned from vacationing in Hawaii in June and he had a crazy idea – “let's compete in a triathlon.” I immediately said yes - not knowing what a triathlon really is or how in the hell I would compete. I was so desperate for something to knock me out of my fast food normalcy - I signed up.
At 38 years young, I understand that I am fat. I'm 5'10" & 235 pounds - some say pear-shaped. I know how I reached this point. I always told myself that I could lose weight easily by watching what I ate and mixing in some moderate exercise. In fact, in 1999, I purchased a lifetime membership to Bally's Total Fitness and on two hands I could count the number of times I've been in a Bally's. Of course, truth be told, that "moderation" day has never come. At this point, I have to either resign to being fat or make dramatic changes in my life and become thin. I've decided to take the latter path—trial by triathlon.
We researched several different programs and decided that Team in Training would be the best fit for our firm. Bret, I and several employees will be competing in early April…if I don't die first, of course. We'll be competing in the Lavaman Triathlon for those of you that crave details about our painful journey.
The reason we decided on Team in Training is that the money we raise goes to help The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - real people with real cancer problems. And, take a gander at the Team in Training website when you get a chance. Lot's of excellent testimonials.
Our training starts September 1st and will culminate with our competition in Hawaii in early April - for those of you counting - seven short months. Between here and there I must lose 40 pounds, learn to swim a mile in the open ocean, bike 25 miles and run roughly a 10k - back to back of course. People, I'm dedicated to reaching my goals and helping this organization while doing so.
Hope all is well in your world - give me a shout via email and I'll let you know how the training is going.
Best,
