These Are My Heroes...
...and here's how YOU can support them, too
Hey there, peeps!
Okay, by now, all of you have figured out I'm kinda into the "marathon running" thing. As of October06, I now have 9 full marathons and 4 half marathons under my belt in about a 2 1/2 year span.
And as many of you know, the way I got started was with Team In Training, a fundraising spur of The Leukemia and Lymphoma society. Partly because I wanted help training for my first marathon, but also in memory of my Dad, RC, who passed away in 1996 from a battle with NonHodgkins Lymphoma.
The distance of a marathon is now managable to me. Sure, I hurt at the end, but after a couple of these, you kind of know what to expect.
But the part that never gets less challenging is fundraising for The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society. Pictured above are some of my friends who have either beaten or are currently battling blood cancers. Several of you have been generous in your support in the past, and I thank you.
But here's the challenge. These folks battling the blood cancers are still receiving financial support from LLS - that means we continously fundraise to support them. And to support researchers, like our local researchers at UT-Southwestern who developed Gleevac, one of the dominant drugs used in cancer treatment.
If you'd like to hear more about me and marathon stories, I'll post a link to my blog (Dr. Mike's SuperFrankenBlog) with a deeper backstory about running and Dad and my TeamInTraining experience.
I'd appreciate your support. Not just for me, but for my friends battling the blood cancers. Please help me help them!
Thanks!
Mike
