Bret Starr + Triathlon = Money to Fight Blood Cancers
You probably know by now (or you wouldn’t be here), but I’m running a triathlon to raise money for the fight against blood cancers. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society raises funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from killing people. I joined the fight by joining Team in Training.
Team in Training (from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society) is the world's largest endurance sports training program. I joined a Team that will complete an Olympic Triathlon on April 1, 2007. If you want to help my Team fight blood cancers, please “MAKE A CONTRIBUTION” by selecting an amount from the list on the right side of this page (then click on "DONATE!").
I’m going to work for the money you donate. I won’t mow your lawn or wash your car, but I will provide you with some entertainment. I’m 33 years old, I weigh 257 pounds (in Sept.), I love chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes (and yes, sadly, gravy) - and I’m going to run an Olympic Triathlon. That means I’m going to compete in a race that will force me to swim 1500 meters, bike 40 kilometers and run 10 kilometers (all in the same day … without resting in between … and hopefully without puking). I would convert those numbers to miles, but I don’t want to know the actual distances.
Will I finish the race? Will I collapse from exhaustion? Or will I mysteriously disappear the morning of the race to be found later casually sipping a margarita in the hotel bar as if nothing unusual has happened at all? Only time will tell. But if you help me out with a donation, you can either share in the joy of my accomplishment or (if I wimp out) poke my belly the next time you see me and ask, “did you really think you could drag that thing through the water, haul it on a bike and carry it on mere running shoes?”
If you want to monitor my training (including incredibly disturbing before and after photos – not for the weak of stomach) visit the Team Starr blog at: http://teamstarr.blogspot.com/
If you think you know someone else that has an interest in fighting blood cancer, or an interest in placing side bets on my potential to finish the race (I’ll take that action), please let them know about this web site.
Thank you for your donation.
Sincerely,
Bret Starr
