Run Walk, Monkey, Walk Run!
Running Walking 'cuz cancer don't cure itself...
Welcome to my Team In Training donation page.
I am training to run walk in the New Jersey Marathon on April 29, 2007, as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. (I started out training to run, but "runner's knee" hindered my training, so I switched to walking rather than miss out on this event altogether.)
Since 1988, Team in Training participants have raised over $430 million for cancer research and patient services. That contribution has already brought new treatments and hope to many patients, but there is still a long way to go to get to that finish line - a cure - so please support me as I run toward it. Together, we can help cure cancer.
I am making this commitment in honor of my 12-year-old friend, Reilly. He's had more than his fair share of physical adversity to live with, including severe arthritis, asthma, and a serious blood disorder that makes minor injuries not so minor, and slows down healing. Despite all this, the kid goes right on living as normal a life as he can, and when I thought about who might keep me inspired as I train for my marathon, Reilly was an obvious choice. Though not a leukemia patient exactly, I'm confident that advances in blood cancer research would work in his favor given his blood disorder. As a role model for what true endurance is, he's a great choice. Last year, Reilly trained for and participated in a fundraising walk for an arthritis organization, and that contributed to my decision to sign up with Team in Training. Next to his endurance, my 26.2 miles don't look so intimidating.
Please donate as generously as you can to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission. You can use the donation link on the left to make a contribution by credit card. All contributions are tax deductible. I will be posting updates about my training progress and Team in Training experience on my personal blog "The Finite Monkey". I hope you will check on my progress often and feel free to offer words of support in the comments. You are also welcome to contact me there if you have any questions or would like to contribute by means other than submitting your donation online. Thanks for your support!
