Susanna Loewy's Team In Training Page
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I am training to participate in the Half Ironman Wildflower Triathlon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. I will be swimming 1.2 miles, biking 56 miles, and then running 13.1 miles in the heart of "Steinbeck country", California...halfway between LA and San Francisco. I am doing all this in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers.
The Team in Training program is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's top fundraiser, year after year. The whole society is dedicated to raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma.
In my relatively short life span, I have known so many people with cancer. I'm happy to say that most of them have recovered; we're doing our part...we're conquering!
Of course though, there are people who just don't pull through. My first 'Sunday School' teacher, Barry Trevithick (someone who helped later helped teach me to drive, and put up with my surly teenager glares better than anyone else) passed away a few years ago. He fought with the best of them, but this horrible disease can just take over...please help to stop this.
This time around, I'm going to Mentor fellow teammates to help share what I learned from doing the program last year. I'm happy to say that my long time friend Natasha Zielazinski has joined, and I'll be her Mentor. I'm excited to have her as a Mentee, and I'm ecstatic that I'm able to show others how amazing this program is.
Of course, I'm again going to be fundraising. Last year (with your help), I managed to raise $3,850. This year I'm raising the bar a bit, and hope to be able to raise $4,400. That number is a bit daunting, but I'm sure I can do it.
This program has had such an incredible impact on me; I'd venture to say that it has changed my entire outlook on life. Along with the many things it has taught and given me, perseverance is at the top of the list. I know I can not only raise the money, but also train for such an incredible endurance event as the Half-Ironman.
I'm looking forward to the challenge.
Please feel free to visit my site frequently to keep track of my fundraising. I have also made a couple of blogs to track my progress while training (this could be a farce)and to keep my mentees updated (Go Tri Team!).
Thanks again for all of your amazing support, both monetarily and (more importantly!) emotionally. I know that a lot of things have changed in the past year as I've gotten more and more involved with this program, and I thank you all for helping me along every step (or ambulance ride) along the way.
Thanks also to our generous corporate contributors: Arabica Coffee Shop in University Circle, Vidstar Video on Coventry, and Fast Eddy's Chop Shop on Coventry.
