2008 Disneyworld Marathon

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

As many of you are aware, I recently quit smoking after 24 years. I am now training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us with Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.

I'm running in memory of my fiancée's grandfather, who battled lymphoma for more than two years and passed away on December 14 this year. I'm also running in honor of Mark Raynault, a friend and professional colleague who is in his third year of being cancer-free.

Jen ran the half-marathon in honor of grandfather last year and is running the full marathon with me this year.

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.

I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. You can view more personalized information about my training here.

Thanks for your support!

Major Milestones

August 25, 2007
Our first group run was only three miles, but will get longer each week. We'll run as a team on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and then on our own two other days of the week. Even by 7:00 a.m., it's so humid outside already!

September 3, 2007
Jen and I are out of town visiting her grandfather and so we are running in Kentucky. The hills are evident to our muscles after running and it's even hotter than in Florida right now.

September 15, 2007
Carabba's Summer Beach Run - Five miles of beach running. Our coach said it was easier on your body than street running, but it sure isn't easier. We were tricked!

October 7, 2007
We advanced to 10 miles today. This is the farthest I've ever run, having completed the 9.3-mile Gate River Run in March of this year. It only gets more outlandish from here!

October 21, 2007
I ran a half-marthon (13.1 mi) today!

November 5, 2007
Our group training run was 16 miles this week! I received confirmation today that my registration for the marathon was complete. No backing out now!

December 14, 2007
Jen's grandfather passed away today after a more than two-year battle with Lymphoma.

December 16, 2007
Today was our longest training run before the marathon. We ran the Jacksonville Bank Half-Marathon (13.1 miles) and then continued on for another 7 miles.

January 13, 2008
I did it! I completed the Disneyworld Marathon in 5:22:26! Jen came through not far behind!
