Baby, it is COLD outside and I'm out on my bike in the middle of the desert!
Yes I am at it again!
Four years ago, with your support and good wishes, I raised over $3,000 and participated in the Spud Triathlon.
This time, I decided to stick with the part of the triathlon I am better at. I am going to be riding 100 miles in the Santa Fe Century in May. One hundred miles is a long way, but I won't be alone. I will be riding with a team of riders who have joined me in committing to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Blood related cancers strike over 107,000 Americans each year and acute leukemia is the number one cause of death of children under the age of 15.
One of the greatest contributions of the Society is toward research. Great progress has been made in the treatment of this disease, and continued funding for this research is essential. I have set a personal goal to raise $5000 toward this effort.
I am riding in honor of Mike McCarthy who was diagnosed with chronic lymphocratic leukemia in 2000. Because of research funded by the Leukemia Society, he was able to try a new treatment. His cancer is now in remission.
I am also riding for everyone who has been touched by cancer and those who will be. Because of research funding, cancer cure/remission rates have increased dramatically over the past 20 years.
Hopefully, one day there will be no more TNT rides because blood cancers will be treatable and curable.
As I ride through the desert mountains of Santa Fe, you will be with me in spirit, and your sponsorship will inspire me to ride stronger and faster to the finish line. A donation of one dollar per mile is suggested, but whatever you can do to contribute matters…it all adds up! With over 75% of your donation going directly to research and patient services, you truly can make a difference.

Update 3/26 -- I am still chugging along...the mountains, the altitude, asthma and flat tires have proved challenging, but I'm still riding... I recently rode up a 4 mile long hill!
