Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my page! Let me tell you a little about why I wanted you to come visit. Recently my best friend's husband went to the doctor and they found a tumor. Not too long after that I heard about Team in Training and decided it would be a really good way to help. After attending the informational meeting I realized just how important- not to mention amazing it is that these participants can be a part of these marathons and provide so much for the researchers and patients of lymphoma and leukemia, not to mention their families.

Still debating how much a small donation could actually help? Let me show you some numbers. In 1960 only 4 percent of children who were diagnosed with either lymphoma or leukemia survived from the disease. In the past 40 years with the help of many generous people, the researchers have been able to use new technology and help increase the survival rate from that 4 percent to an amazing 86 percent.

This made me really start considering things. Could I really donate my time and energy into participating in a marathon? I'm not necessarily in that good of shape by any means. Am I capable of making a committment like this and following through? I already have many committments on the table for myself, including work, school, and volunteering. Then I got an email. In it was the patient and survivor from Lincoln, Nebraska that I was to represent if I took part in Team in Training. This boy is so amazing; at age five he battled cancer and is still such a bright and active child. Not to mention he has two sisters and one baby brother who love him dearly. His whole family has participated in events just like this one and his parents Pat and Courtney are actually Team in Training alumni.

Here is where those questions I was asking myself came back. Although human of me to question, how must it have been for Noah McCashland and his family when they found out he was sick? What must their lives be like going through all the tests, doctors appointments and chemotherapy? My answer was how could I NOT do this?

After seeing those numbers, and praying alot about Noah, I have decided to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this marathon in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission. For a $100 donation, I will run "in memory of" or "in celebration of" the person of your choice and will wear that person's name on my race-day attire.

I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support! God Bless!!!
