Aaron Milburn's Team In Training Page
Racing to Save Lives
30 miles down, and climbing! Next week I head to Poolsville, MD, for a 40 mile ride. We get started early to beat the heat. My goal is to be done by 10:00AM. We've got a great group of people, and everyone is doing well. Go Team!
I am training to participate in a Century (a 100 mile bike race) as a member of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training. The course centers around Maryland's Eastern Shore on October 4th of this year. The proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward research for treatment and cures for blood cancers and financial support for families actively undergoing treatment for these cancers. Last year, over 60% of funds raised went toward research and other programs organized by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. For detailed information, please check out the society's annual report for 2005: Part 1 Part 2
This year our team has two honored teammates: Mike Fijalka and Seabreeze Osburn. These two individuals have undergone successful treatment for blood cancer and are joining us this summer to raise more money for research.
Mike Fijalka was diagnosed with a brain tumor 14 years ago. Successful treatment of his brain tumor may have caused lymphoblastic T-cell lymphoma, which was found when he was 6 years old. He underwent chemotherapy from May, 1995, to August, 1997, and has been in remission ever since. He now rides with Team in Training to help raise funds so that in the future cancer victims won't have to undergo the agressive chemo therapy he was forced to endure.
Seabreeze Osburn was diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkins disease when she was 16, just after making the drill team at school. She went to Children's Hospital in Dallas, TX, for the next 6 months to receive chemotherapy, and was amazed at how taxing the therapy was, regardless of the length. She has now been in remission for over 10 years. She now participates in Team in Training so she can give back a portion of what was given to her and help out with future research. She is living an active and healthy life, and wants the same thing for future cancer victims.
These two young people are an inspiration to me, and help me get through those tough training miles. Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.
