Training Around the Neighborhood

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

Hi. My name is Kristen Hendrix. I am training to participate in an endurance event, the Nike Women’s Marathon, a Race to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, in San Francisco, CA, on October 22, 2006. Some people think I have lost my mind, volunteering to run 26.2 miles. Maybe I have; I’ll let you know on October 23rd. But seriously, I want to do more than just run a marathon. That is why I have joined the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training.

As a member of the Team in Training, I am raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I need your help raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Mississippi Chapter. I am asking you to help by making a contribution. Each donation, whether small or large, helps accelerate cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Each donation brings hope to the patients and families who are on the front lines of the battle against these diseases.

When you donate, you will be helping to fund lifesaving research and provide help and hope to thousands of families. To make an online donation, simply click on the above secure link. You will receive a confirmation by email detailing your donation. I appreciate your support.

Team in Training is a comprehensive endurance-training program for runners, walkers, cyclists and tri-athletes to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The goal of Team in Training is to increase funding to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission while promoting fitness and healthy life styles.

On August 1, 2005, I weighed 215 pounds and wore a size 16. As of today, August 21, 2006, I weigh 128 pounds and wear a size 4. In just one year, I have lost 87 pounds by changing my lifestyle to include a healthy, nutritiously balanced diet along with regular (daily) exercise.

Now that I am in the best shape of my life, on the outside as well as on the inside, I want to use my new found knowledge of fitness and a healthy lifestyle to really make a difference.

I would be very honored to have you make a donation on my behalf. Not my behalf, I'm healthy and capable of not only walking, but running this event. Rather, on behalf of all those struggling just to put one foot in front of the other. Any contribution that you are willing to give is greatly appreciated. Please forward this web page to as many people as you can to encourage them to donate as well.

I am participating in this event in honor of my friend, Peg Welch, a seven-year survivor of Hodgkin Lymphoma and my law school roommate's mother, Mary Brouillette, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma in the Winter of 2004. They know first hand what it is like to battle a blood cancer. I am also running in memory of Larry Lenoir and Dallas Yellott, both lost their battle with Leukemia. I am also running in honor of Dee Flynn Stallings. She was just diagnosed (08/2006) with Lymphoma. She has one daughter who is in the process of planning her wedding in May 2007. To many friends and co-workers, she is like a surrogate mother. She has been so recently diagnosed that all we know right now is that it is stage one. She has an appointment to meet with an oncologist and until then we will not know about what her treatments will be. We know it can be treated with radiation and chemo, hopefully pill form. Please keep all of these individuals and their families in your thoughts and prayers.

In addition, I am running in honor of our Team in Training honored teammate Ramona Harrell, who is currently winning her battle against Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia. Ramona is taking Gleevec, a drug that was developed due to research made and funded by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Ramona has said that “life feels almost normal thanks to this miracle drug.” These people are the real heroes on our team, and your support is needed to cross the ultimate finish line – a cure!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team in Training and help advance the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission.

All of my weight loss was for me; this marathon is for everyone battling cancer.

On behalf of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, thank you very much for your time and support.

Thanking you in advance,

Kristen An Horton Hendrix
