Mike Walch's Team In Training Page
Racing to Save Lives
Hello and welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I am returning for the 2nd year as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training to compete in the Philadelphia Triathlon is June. All of us involved with Team In Training (TNT) are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I also have the privilege of returning as a mentor this year. My job as a mentor is to help those who are new to TNT and the sport of triathlon by being an added support system along with the coaches and staff members. I’m very excited about helping out my team members raise money for a great organization and for many complete their first triathlon.
My choice to raise funds and support the LLS comes from the fact that leukemia was the first type of cancer to have a major effect on my family. My uncle Jerry was diagnosed with acute leukemia in 1996. Jerry’s prognosis was not very good and was told that he would only make it a couple more months. With great heart and strength Jerry was not going to just give into this fate. Jerry underwent large amounts of treatment to continue his life; his determination extended his life pass his doctor’s expectations. Jerry lived for a year after his diagnosis before succumbing to the disease in November of 1997.
Jerry is just one of several people that I have known who have been affected by leukemia, lymphoma, and other cancers. In honor of those who have survived. In memory of those we have had to say goodbye to and for all those who continue to battle and deal with cancer is why I continue to support the LLS. I hope you will join me in doing whatever we can to aid those who will someday find a cure for these awful diseases.
I would be so grateful if you would consider making a donation to support my involvement with TNT and help advance the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission. There is a part to play for anyone who is willing.
