Racing to Save Lives
E-mail: Kate McFarland
I am training to run my 1st marathon (June 21st) as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. We are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
If this is something your family or business would like to support, you can make secure donations online. Of course, the society will also accept cash, checks, etc. (just email if you need the details). Feel free to send this link on to as many people as you'd like.
Check back frequently to see my training updates & fundraising events. Thank you for your support!!
Saturday "Long Run" Progress:
* May 3rd: We were on vacation in Memphis, but still squeezed in a 16 miles run…7 weeks to go!
* April 6th: I completed my 1st ½ marathon with my Dad & Pete by my sides! They were great inspiration & I am officially ½ way there.
* March 22nd: We ran 12 great miles Saturday on the Frisco Highline, then dad took me on a 5 mile recovery hill route Sunday…now I need a recovery run, from my recovery run.
* March 15th: We’ve heard there’s a good chance it will rain during part of the marathon in Alaska. Today we had a good rain run!
* March 8th: 10 miles! I almost cried tears of excitement!
* February 23rd: 7 miles & coach decided we’d do a hill warm-up, I think he’s crazy! j/k Coach! :)
* February 9th: Collapsed after 4 miles…discouraging, but remembering the people I'm doing this for!
* January 26th: 6 miles with the team & my 1st hill workout…Ouch!
* January 12th: 5am run on a 5 degree windy morning = NOT FUN!
* January 2nd: Let’s hope the holiday egg nog didn’t set me too far back!
* December 1st: As of today, I can run 2 miles comfortably!!
* November 10th: I signed up to race for a cure! I have the support to complete a lifelong goal & make a difference in something that affects so many of us. The excitement is overwhelming when you feel you've found part of your purpose in life!
