Darcy's Team In Training Page
I am doing it again!! Third time's a charm? I am training to ride 100 miles around Lake Tahoe as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. I am raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this 100 mile bike ride in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. Especially my friend Greg who is to the right of me in the picture. He has been my biking partner, my team hero, my friend and is a survivor with such a wonderful outlook on life.
You can keep tabs on me and my whole team at www.michigancycle.com.
MAY:
I arranged one more team fundraiser for my group and we raised over $700 at Kroger during our bucket drive on 5/6. And thank you to my friends Glenn Warfle, Karl Darin, Scott Gilliland, Kevin Lampi, Will Pearson, Ben Peavy and Heidi Riley for very generous donations again this year!
APRIL:
Thanks again to my colleagues for another successful bakesale, we raised another $450. And thank you to my big-hearted friend Andy Lacivita for supporting me again this year. My family has supported me in so many ways over the years, and this year is no exception. Special thanks to my cousins Jody and Don and John, grandma Kitty and 'Mama Nancy'! My team bowling fundraiser raised over $600, thanks go to my dad and husband and his buddy Mike for bowling and buying raffle tickets! I snuck in one more fundraiser at Main Dish Kitchen and Pam Fons, Deb Mero, Maria Sheler-Edwards, Judy Aldrich, Barb Caird, Joan Masters, Kris Maly, Lisa Psarouthakis and Holly Nielsen (from a hospital bed!) all helped out.
MARCH:
On St. Patrick's Day I joined a few of my teammates in Port Huron for the
parade and some visits to the bars to collect money by giving away green beads and
discounted fun items from
www.FlashingBlinkyLights.com and offering pictures with our blow-up
leprechaun (coach Craig)! All together we raised $1700 due to many, many generous people that
day! And thank you to Andrea Balian, my friend since 7th grade, who has generously supported me again this year. She has a niece who has been in remission for several years now.
FEBRUARY:
My
sister and a few of my friends braved the weather on 2/25 to join me at my
shopping fundraiser at White House Black Market. I want to thank the
credit cards of Kristen Gignac, Shawn Pollman, Amy Grier, Jennifer Tomko, Judy Smutek, Mandie Chapman and Denise Stegall! I also have to thank my UofM friends for a successful Valentines Day Bake Sale! $700 was raised! I split that with another TNT member but all of it went to this charity. This year I have asked my Strawberry Lake neighbors to support me. I want to thank the Muir, Sobolewski, Heffelfinger, Moeller, Stripp, Patterson/Papsdorf, Erskine, Freiberg, Drzewiecki, Hesch and Murphy families! One donation came all the way from Hawaii! My favorite quote from a survivor is - "You can tell the true character of a person by how they treat someone who can do absolutely nothing for them."
JANUARY:
I wanted to thank my co-workers and friends (Denise Stegall, Holly Nielsen, Amy Lawrence, Pam Fons, Deb Mero, Cassandra Carson, Kathy Gillespie, Elizabeth Clark, Kris Maly and Lisa Psarouthakis) for joining me at my first fundraiser. All due to the wonderful 'Dish for Dollars' fundraising program that Main Dish Kitchen offers. Also, many many friends from work and Liberty participated in my Super Bowl Squares fundraiser to get me $300 closer to my goal. And thank you Tom Mobley for my very first donation!
