In Memory of Dena Rollo

Dena Rollo...inspiring us even now.

Welcome to Kim and Isabel's Team In Training home page.

Our half marathon is this weekend and we're psyched! Isabel and I have been training steadily every week with our wonderful coaches Maryanne and Ron. We learned the hard way about the importance of water and fuel during a 12 mile hike on a hot day a few weeks back. We were brain dead by the end. It was like our brains had shriveled up from lack of liquid and sugar. So now we're equipped with all sorts of high energy jelly beans, chewy gelatinous cubes and other strange energy foods.

The event is near Lake Winnepasaukee in New Hampshire. We're hoping the weather will be mild and slightly overcast. And we're looking forward to all that spaghetti the night before!

If you don't know already, we are training to participate in a half marathon walk in May 2007 as members of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. Isabel Rollo is an "unofficial" team member because she is one year too young to be an official team member. But that doesn't mean she can't fund raise! All of us on the Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. Isabel and I are completing this event in memory of her mother Dena who passed away in May 2006 and in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Dena was a one of a kind person. She was vibrant, passionate, incredibly smart, had an opinion on everything, and brought out the best in others. She was the kind of person that truly lived by her principles, even if it was uncomfortable or inconvenient for herself or others. She was also totally human, and was brave enough to expose her own struggles, inconsistencies and challenges without shame. She inspired and touched others with her courage, humor, intelligence, insight, and creativity. I am better for having known her.

Some of you may know that I recently celebrated my 5 year anniversary of remaining cancer free after my melanoma diagnosis in 2001. It feels like a privilege and blessing to be able to participate in this event as a cancer survivor. Having cancer was truly life changing for me, or rather, life AFFIRMING. It led me to take my health and well being much more seriously, to live out my ideals much more purposefully and has helped me to be more passionate about the priorities in my life. Raising money for cancer related research and support programs has become one of those things I am now passionate about.

Please make a secure, tax-deductible donation to support our participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission. No amount is too small; every little bit gets us closer to our goal. There's a link on this page that will give you information on participating in a marathon, half marathon, triathalon or century bike ride if you're interested.

We hope you'll visit our web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see our progress. Thank you for your support! Kim and Isabel
