Melissa Read's Team In Training Page
Racing to Save Lives
Thank you for visiting my Team in Training fundraising page. This April, I will be running the Boston Marathon for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training. Since my donors have been so generous, I was able to reach my initial goal a lot faster than I expected, so I have upped my goal from 2500 to 5000 dollars! The picture is a picture of my mom, dad, brother, and I after we all finished the Disney marathon. While I wasn't running Disney for Team in Training, there was a huge Team in Training presence which got me really excited about running Boston! For those of you not familiar with Team in Training, it is the largest charity endurance training program in the world. Since its inception in 1988, Team in Training has raised more than $600 million towards cures for blood cancers like lymphoma, myeloma, and leukemia: the number one disease killer of children. The money raised will fund the world's leading researchers as well as provide patients with financial assistance. I am running the marathon in honor of Lindsey Kimball, a beautiful 11-year-old who loves horseback riding and ballet. Lindsey was diagnosed with A.L.L. Leukemia on February 16, 2002 and went into remission on March 15, 2002. Tragically Lindsey relapsed on May 3, 2005 and is currently undergoing treatment. Training for the Boston Marathon may be one of the most difficult things that I have ever done. Compared to what Lindsey is going through, my training is nothing. I am asking that you join me, either financially or in spirit, in supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission to find a cure. You can securely donate online, right here. Just click the "Donate Now" button in the upper right hand corner of this page. Regardless of whether or not you choose to donate, if you have a friend or family member that has been afflicted with a blood cancer and would like me to run in their honor, please send me their name. Their name will be on my shirt when I cross the finish line of the Boston Marathon this April. Thank you for your support! Melissa
