Sydney Schwartz's Team In Training Page
Racing to Save Lives
Welcome everyone!
I am training for my first half-marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training – running 13.1 miles to help find a cure for blood cancers and achieve a personal goal.
The event, the Big Lake Half Marathon, takes place May 12, in Alton, N.H., about two hours north of my new abode in Cambridge, Mass. I will race on the shores of the Big Lake, Lake Winnipesaukee, surrounded by the White Mountains and the Ossipee Mountain Range.
For me, the event has a dual significance. In the late-1990s, I was by far the slowest runner on the Bronx High School of Science swim team. I have since had an inherent inability to run more than a mile or two. (My legs typically just stop after about 20 minutes.)
Last year, for the first time in my life, I exceeded the three-mile mark – completing my first 5K in Fairfield, Conn. Now, at age 26, a decade after my first run with Mr. Brown’s swim team, I am challenging myself to running nearly four times that distance. I need your help and encouragement to complete the journey.
More importantly, I am taking these strides with Team in Training to help raise more than $2,200 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society -- in honor of all the individuals who are battling blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma. These people are the real heroes of my team.
This is my personal motivation. By sponsoring me in this training, your much-needed and much-appreciated donations will help find cures and make a difference in many lives.
Thank you for your continued support. I couldn’t do it without you.
Best, Sydney
