Becky's Way of Helping

Yes, it's true...I'm training for a marathon. Those of you who know me, might find a lot of humor in this, since I've never been a runner. However, this is a marathon to help raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society; 75% of the money you donate, goes directly to research. Because of this, I thank you, in advance, for all donations you make. I am training with Team in Training, a nation-wide program that has helped to train over 200,000 runners; many of whom have never before completed a marathon. Each person who trains with this organization, works with trainers and mentors, is able to pick the marathon she wants to participate in, and has an honored hero she runs for. I am training in Boston, and running in PF Chang's Rock and Roll Arizona Marathon, on January 15, 2006, in Phoenix, Arizona. My Team in Training honored hero is Roberta Frechette, who has stage 4 NHL, and has been in the watch and wait status since 2002. In addition to Roberta, I currently have three people I am running in remembrance of: my maternal grandfather, who died of prostate cancer, my paternal grandmother, who died of breast cancer, and my maternal grandmother, who lost her fight with lung cancer in June of 2005. I also have four people I am running in honor of because they are cancer survivors: my cousin, Jesse, who was 8 when he was diagnosed with cancer, my childhood friend, Mike, who is currently "LIVING STRONG," my aunt MaryEllen, who is undergoing breast cancer treatments right now, and a family friend, Trish Miller, who beat Non-Hodgkins' Lymphoma. Please feel free to make donations in honor of, or in remembrance of anyone you'd like. I will be sure to acknowledge all honorees when I'm running on January 15, 2006.
