Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
Yes, it really is true. I am training to run/walk the Walt Disney World Half Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. As most of you know this is something near and dear to my heart since mom was diagosed will leukemia in 2003. Because of mom's struggle with cancer I have decided to compete in honor of mom and of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission. Donors of $50 or more will have their name printed on the back of my jersey on race day.
I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
Aug. 1- Today was my first day of training. My two roommates have dubbed themselves my personal trainers. They have promised to run with me every night.
Aug. 2-Today is by far one of my favorite training days....rest and stretch.
Aug. 3- I have set my first fundraising goal. I am aiming to raise $1,000 by August 15. Please help me be successful in my goal. $25 might seem like a lot but it is really only one night at the movies or one dinner at a restaurant.
Aug. 13-Training is going very well. I ran 1.5 miles today in 25 min. Wish me luck as I continue!
Wow...sorry I'm so far behind in updates. Training is going well. I am up to four miles on Saturday's. last week I averaged 13 min. miles! Wahoo! I am currently past the $1000.00 mark in fundraising. Thanks to all those who have already given. My next goal is $1500.00 by Sept. 15.
Sept. 4- Jessica Peterson teamed up with me tonight to be my moral support. We ran out at the Rock Island Trail. Trail running is a lot harder than it looks, but we made it through our two miles before the started pouring.
Sept. 8- Today was a four mile trek. It went really well. I did all four miles at the 4:1 pass which means I ran for four minutes then walked for a minute. My time was 51:56. I'm just under a 13 min. mile! WAHOO
Sept. 9- A big thank you to all who have donated so far. I am up to $1375.00 as of tonight. THANK YOU!
Sept. 29- I did 60 straight minutes of training today at a 5 to 1 pace. I even made Chris run with me. I was shocked at how easy it was and how great it felt. I never thought that I could do 4 1/2 miles in under 60 minutes. Fundraising is also going well. Thank you again to all of you who have helped me so far. You have no idea how much it means to me that you all have helped to support me and my cause. The team running the Walt Disney World Marathon has raised over $68,000 for cancer research!
Oct. 27- Ok so I am a little behind in updating this but I have so much great news to share. At my Saturday training sessions I have been doing amazing things. The first weekend in Oct. I ran 5 miles, a personal best at the time. The next weekend I did 6 miles in one hour and twenty minutes, a new personal best! I was thrilled at that, but today I ran 8 miles in 1 hour and 45 minutes. I almost had to give up because of knee problems but my coaches helped keep me going and have shown me how to help prevent further injury. I felt so good afterward except for the whole knee pain thing. On an even greater note, fundraising is going very well thanks to my friends and family. The Bean Bag fundraiser today made $500. That brings my new total to over $2600. THANK YOU! The last great piece of news is that I bought my mom's plane ticket and hotel room this week for our trip to Disney. She is officially going with me.
Nov. 5th- I had another successful weekend of training. I did 6 miles in 1 hour 18 min. I am up to an 8 to 1 pace. I bought my new running shoes for the second half of training and race day. Everything is really starting to fall into place and I am just so thankful for everything that everyone has done. Just when I think that I couldn't ask for better friends and family someone does something that makes me realize that there is NO WAY that I could possibly ever need better friends and family because I have the best that are out there. Thank you for being you!
Nov. 17- Wow! I am just $200 shy of my $4,000 goal thanks to some donations from some great friends and co-workers. This weekend was a 10 mile run. It was the first time I got to experience the fun that is Bishop hill. Boy is it not fun. It is great training though. I did my ten miles in 2 hours 16 minutes. I am right on track for finishing my 13. I'll keep you updated as I go!
