Training for the Marathon - One (Slow) Step at a Time

Thanks for checking out my Team In Training home page! I am sure you are anxious to hear more about my newest mission - training to run 26.2 miles in this year's LAS VEGAS MARATHON!!!!

I spent almost 6 months training for the Chicago Marathon, which took place on October 7th. As many are aware, a series of unfortunate events took place that caused race officials to cancel the race mid-way through. I participated in the Chicago Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training but my first marathon experience did not go quite as expected. 16 miles into the run I was diverted to the finish line - and now still have yet to complete my first marathon!

Members of Team In Training raise funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.

While the fundraising was obviously an important part of this experience - my ultimate goal, to complete a marathon, has yet to be achieved. Together with several other wonderful people I have met through this experience, we are taking destiny into our own hands. We now have a couple of more weeks of training until we run in the December 2 Las Vegas Marathon!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission. I still plan to run on behalf of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Team in Training in this event. While there is no official fundraising for Las Vegas - donations can still be made through this website. It all goes to the same place - an organization dedicated to making a difference in blood related cancer research, patient services, public and professional education, advocacy and community services.

Don't forget to check out my progress (in addition to the challenges and obstacles I encounter) as I work to complete my mission on my blog. As a person new to running (let alone marathon training!) I am using my blog as a way to share my thoughts as I go through this amazing experience. Please be sure to check back often - I promise to provide training details in addition to updates as I hit each milestone and roadblock.
