Welcome to my Team In Training home page where I am detainiling my training experiences...enjoy!
july:[13] Greetings to each of you! We are in the middle of July, and the weather in Chicago is absolutely gorgeous. My Saturday rides are so very beautiful out in the suburban areas of Chicago. I get up bright and early every Saturday morning to head to my group rides. We began our group rides at 15 miles, and this coming Saturday we are riding 35 miles in Barrington, IL. I must admit that learning how to cycle is certainly the combination of an art and science. With the exception of my 25-mile ride in Barrington, IL where I took a slight spill on the road, I continue to really enjoy my time on two wheels! I find my coaches to be supportive and helpful; I am grateful for that! Along with my group rides on Saturdays, I attend a weekly spinning class here in the city. Crunch, a local gym here in the city, donates space to Team in Training. The spinning classes are quite difficult, but I am hopeful there is progress each time I attend my spinning class.
I continue to work towards my goal of fundraising $2200. I am currently at 55% and have raised a total of $1216. I did receive a phone call today from one of the local restaurants sharing with me that they are making a generous donation! I will ride my bicycle up to the restaurant tonight and retrieve their donation. I am very thankful for the community’s support, and I am very thankful for your support be it financial, emotional, or both! As I come closer to my fundraising deadline, I ask for your continued support. If you have friends or family that you feel might want to make a financial contribution to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, I invite you to consider emailing them my information. I am happy to provide my original support letter that many of you have received or grabbed at my recent fundraiser.
May the efforts we pursue produce fruit of healing and advocacy for all!

Come help Robyn scoop her way to 100 miles at Sweet Occasions & More! When? Friday, 23 June 2006 from 6-10p.m. Where? Sweet Occasions & More located at 5306 N. [1st] well, the summer months are rapidly approaching and i continue to get out on the bike and ride, attending my spinning class and saturday long rides. this week [10] my cycling team is riding in the velodrome located in northbrook, IL. we will ride 15 miles/2 hours. i will keep you posted on my whereabouts and how my training is going. as for now, however, thank you for your support! i am almost at 50% of my fundraising goal! this is feeling good to me and i look forward to reaching my goal!
on other fronts, i'm having a fundraiser on 23 june 2006 at sweet occasions and more! come for a sandwich, an ice cream cone, a sundae or a shake! its all good there, and a percentage of the sales will be given to me to count toward my funraising goal! save the date!!
May: [spinning at crunch] it is safe to say that this spinning class is going to work me good! i went on a recovery ride today to keep going and keep my legs moving! i'm definitely feeling the burn when we crank it up and stand up! i'm going to start cross training at bally's, since i get a 3 month membership!
[20th: my first ride in barrington, IL] needless to say, everything that could've happen did, except a flat tire! saturday was a 15 mile ride out in barrington in hills. i've never ridden hills, and i was struggling! so, my gears were slipping, i was having delayed shifting, and then finally my chain fell off! so, what normally takes me 45 minutes to an a hour and 1/2 took me like 3 hours! that is not good! i have to work on my time!! and, i have to work on getting my bike to get me through this century! it needs to last me, so we are having intimate talks!
[17] May in Chicago is still rather cool, but I've been in the saddle almost every day. Last night was my first spinning class, and despite an earlier headache, I attended. I really enjoyed my time in the class, and I heard some great music! I didn't find the class too terribly difficult, but then again I didn't do what the Tahoe team was doing. Julie, our coach, had the Tahoe team climbing and increasing their difficulty/tension. I did increase my tension when I returned from the bathroom. Yes, that is right! I had to get off my bike and go the the restroom. This saturday is our first group training ride: 15 miles. I feel ok about it, and I will report back here on Saturday if not sooner! Thanks again for your support and for the emotional and mental support you all are offering me! It means the world to me!
[02] May is upon us, and I am still trying to get out and in the saddle. Today's ride was a little cool, but my hope is that the weather will begin to warm up. I am making headway on my fundraising! I'm grateful that so many folks are helping me out in my endeavors! Thanks!!
April: [19-30] I am focusing on my base mileage right now before my actual training begins. Each day I am seeking to ride 5 miles on the bike path. This Saturday I am planning on taking a longer ride to prepare for the first training ride of 15 miles. So, april is just about over and i am continuing w/ my base mileage training. It is still a bit cold in Chicago, but I'm seeking to make it! My group training begins on 20 May 2006. Thanks to everyonen who has supported me during the month of April!
As many of you know, I'm currently serving as a chaplain in a suburb hospital. I have seen so very much as part of my ministry at the hospital, and one of the things that I have seen is the financial burden and emotional trauma that patients face. My desire to train with Team in Training in conjuction with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a desire that stems from the passion of advocacy, support, and education.
Please consider supporting me financially in this event. In doing so, patients and family members will receive financial and emotion support. In addition to the support and financial aid, patients will be receiving the benefits of ongoing research, which is a focus of my fundraising.
I am training to participate in an endurance event [a century ride] as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this marathon in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission. I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
