Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

As if I don't have enough going on in my life right now, I have decided to join Team in Training to train and participate in the Rock and Roll Marathon in San Diego in June 2008. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this event to challenge myself and to honor all individuals who are battling blood cancers.

I am making the commitment to raise $2,800 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and I need your support and help. Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.

UPDATE 2/9/08 - I just completed week 2 of my training and I have already done two things I never thought I would do. The first one, getting up on 2 consecutive Saturdays at 7 am to train at 8 am, the second one, willingly running in the rain in 45 degree weather. Yes, I know 45 degrees isn't terrible but for someone who is from Hawaii that is COLD. So far the training has been a huge time commitment. I often come home from work outs really tired and wake up in the morning with sore muscles, and I have had to completely give up my Friday nights out so I can be up and ready to train early on Saturdays. The hardest part about the whole process so far has been the fundraising (the running has actually been fairly easy). So please support my efforts and make a donation. Thank you to everyone that has already donated!

UPDATE 2/18/08 - This past week was perfect for training! The weather has been beautiful and makes me feel like winter is over! I did my first EVER 6 mile run on Saturday along the Beach Chalet which was beautiful. There was some walking to go up and down stairs but that was recommended. Thank you to everyone this week that has shown their support and donated to LLS!!!:)

UPDATE 3/3/08 - I just got back spending the weekend in New England. There was so much snow on the ground (8 inches to be exact) so it was a little difficult to keep up with my training but I did manage to get some runs in on the treadmill. It was nice to get back to my regular training routine today in San Francisco and completed a 45 minute run on the Embarcadero. Thanks to everyone that has donated in the past few weeks! It really motivates me to keep going.

UPDATE 4/6/08 - Well, I am still in it! Had a little bit of a set back last week. I caught the typical winter to spring transition sickness but I am up and running again. We are starting to get our mileage up and I am aiming for 10 miles by the end of the week! My goal is to also work on my pacing more. Currently I am running about a 10 minute mile and I was to make it to 9. I can't believe that the race is only a month and a half away! I have a month to make my fundraising goal and I am so close! Only $555 dollars more to make my minimum so if possible please help me out!

UPDATE 5/2/08 - WE DID IT! I made my fundraising goal. Thank you to everyone that has supported LLS and my run! I am also very close to meeting my running goal of 13 miles. I am only two miles away and since I have a whole month to train am considering doing the full marathon...but we will see as just thinking about running 26 miles makes my knees hurt.
