Melissa Rotner's Road to Ironman 2008
140.6 Miles, 17 Hours, One Cause
A 2.4-mile swim, followed by a 112-mile bike ride, followed by a 26.2-mile run, all to be completed in 17 hours or less.
From running a marathon with a back brace, to entering my first tri without training and on a borrowed mountain bike to completing a half Ironman last year after a winter full of running and biking induced injuries, I have been slowly making my way toward competing in and completing an Ironman. Now is my chance. Ignoring those who have made it clear that they feel I am much safer staying in the water then setting foot, or bike tire, on land, I am setting out to accomplish my lifetime goal of finishing an Ironman and I can’t think of any better partner on this journey than The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training.
As a member of the 2008 Ironteam (catchy name), I am committing to raise $8000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission of stopping leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I heard so many stories that were both amazing and sad from those who supported me in my previous Team In Training endeavor of friends and loved ones whose lives have been touched by these diseases. Their stories are perhaps some of the best motivators to counter any feelings of not wanting to get out of bed in the morning on a Saturday to train or complaints that the water is too cold for swim practice in the SF Bay. I choose to proudly race in honor of those who have been effected by these diseases and am looking for your emotional and financial support of this goal.
Please make a tax deductible donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission. And don't forget to check if your company matches charitable donations!
I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check my blog at http://road2ironman2008.blogspot.com to view my training progress.
Thanks for your support!
