ON MY WAY TO IRONMAN

My journey to the starting line, and the search for a cure...Ironman USA 2006 (7/23/2006)

With teammates George and Mo - GO TEAM!

I’ve always wanted to complete an Ironman Triathlon. It’s a dream that seems so impossible, a goal so unattainable, and yet the draw so magical.
I’ve decided to go for it.

Now that I’ve said it, the next five months will prove to be a challenging test, both physically and mentally. The race I’ve signed up for - Ironman USA in Lake Placid, NY - will include:

•2.4 miles swim,

•112 miles bike and

•26.2 miles run.

By the way, it’s all in one day.

My involvement with Team in Training the last couple of years has been nothing short of amazing. I have experienced the beauty of camaraderie – empowering a couch potato like me to first start walking, learn how to ride a bike, swim in the cold frigid water of the San Francisco Bay – and then on to finishing numerous marathons and triathlons. The lasting friendships I’ve formed along the way will forever remain precious in my heart. I have also met the most passionate people with a love of life, battling against cancer, determined not to let it take control. These people are aware there are no guarantees, yet they choose not to give up, keeping their heads up and maintaining positive attitudes. And these are the same people who inspire and motivate me to push myself to reach out to a seemingly unattainable goal.

Ironman training is going to be hard, but fighting against cancer is much harder.

I invite you to join me in my journey to Ironman, and more importantly, to support the fight against cancer. Your generous gift (100% deductible) is significant in helping the brilliant researchers and scientists move a step closer in finding a cure.

With much Appreciation,

Minnie.
