Racing 140.6 miles to Save Lives
Thanks for visiting my IronTeam site!
If you've made it here, you probably know that I'm training with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training to complete Ironman Louisville, in Louisville Kentucky, on August 30, 2009 – a 2.4 mile open water swim, 112 mile bike ride, and 26.2 mile marathon run – and yes, all in the same day.
As a member of Team In Training's IronTeam, I am fortunate to be training with a group of incredibly talented and dedicated individuals, all committed to raising funds to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help find cures for blood cancers like leukemia (the No. 1 disease killer of children), lymphoma and myeloma, and to support patients and their families.
As I train, I am remembering those who have fought and continue to fight cancer and those who are working towards finding a cure.
My personal honoree is Lauren Bishopp who turned 7 on March 18th 2007. Over the past three years I have gotten to know Lauren and her family, and they have had a profound impact on me. Lauren is a truly amazing little girl with incredible spirit, maturity, and strength beyond her years. Lauren recently finished her last chemotherapy treatment for Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL). ALL is a rapidly progressing disease that results in the accumulation of immature, functionless cells in the marrow and blood. The marrow often can no longer produce enough normal red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Anemia, a deficiency of red cells, develops in virtually all leukemia patients. The lack of normal white cells impairs the body's ability to fight infections. A shortage of platelets results in bruising and easy bleeding. Although she is not “cured” yet, Lauren is very lucky to be at her current stage of health. Lauren has a very beautiful English accent that she gets from her wonderful mother Emma and father Mike. She has two beautiful sisters Sophie and Katie.
I am committed to raising $25,000 to help in the fight against blood cancers and I need your help and support to accomplish this huge undertaking.
Please make a tax-deductible donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission. NO DONATION IS TOO SMALL (or too large).
I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress.
Thanks again for your generosity and support!
