Janice's Road to Ironman Canada!
Summer 2006 * Penticton, British Columbia
If you've made it here, you probably know that I will be competing in my first Ironman triathlon next year, IM Canada. By itself, this demanding venture consisting of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run will be my ultimate challenge. With your support, my arduous 10 months of training will have much more meaning and impact. In addition to swimming, biking and running, I will also be raising funds to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help find cures for blood cancers like leukemia (the No. 1 disease killer of children), lymphoma and myeloma.
My goal and commitment is to raise $7,500 to help fund research towards a cure. The Society has dedicated itself to being one of the top-rated voluntary health agencies in terms of dollars that directly fund their mission. A minimum of 75% of all donations go directly to research, patient support and community education and outreach programs.
Please help support this wonderful cause. It only takes a minute out of your busy day to help find a cure...that's it!

TO MY DONORS: A BIG THANK YOU for helping me successfully reach my goal of raising $7500 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!!!
It DOESN'T have to stop there! Since October 2005, the San Francisco Ironman Canada and Ironman USA teams have raised over $460,000 toward finding a cure for blood cancers, and we are well on our way of exceeding our $500,000 target. Combine this amount with the other training teams from Northern California this Spring and the number easily surpasses $1 million dollars!
Thank you all for being a big part of that success and for your continued support and generosity. You are making a big difference in the lives of many!!! FEEL GOOD!
PROGRESS TO DATE (6/27):
Things are definitely starting to HEAT up!! ....and not just the temperature outside (whew! didn't it just hit 98 degrees last week??). I can't believe it's almost July. The race is in exactly two months from today (8/27). YIKES!!!
My training is in full swing. I just did the Giro di Penninsula Bike Century last weekend (6/24). It ended up at ~105 miles and had about 7,000 feet of climbing. Tunitas Creek Road was by far the worst part. ELEVEN (11) miles of uphill climbing. Are you kidding?? It was BRUTAL! So glad I made it through and finished. It was definitely a mental challenge. I even managed to do a five mile run the day after. My coach called it "active recovery". However, I can't say my legs felt any recovery at all. It was definitely tiring! Plans for this weekend are a relatively easier (i.e., flatter) 112 mile bike ride through Napa/Sonoma on Saturday. Sunday is a 3500 yd pool workout (outdoors!!), followed by an easy 12 mile run...OK...maybe not that easy, but we'll pretend ;)
Upcoming Events:
*7/23 - Catfish Open Water Swim (2.4m)
*8/5 - Marin Century Bike Ride (100m)
*8/27 - IRONMAN CANADA!
Please stop by this website to see my progress. I'll keep you updated on the details!
Take care,
Janice :)
