Racing to Save Lives

If you like these shorts you'll really like the guy behind me. This is the UVAS South Bay Triathlon, a sprint distance I did in two hours a few months ago.

Welcome to my Team In Training Ironman Canada 2006 home page. Ironman Canada is being held August 27th in Penticton, BC. Here's a link to the Ironman Canada Homepage:

Ironman Canada Update Number Five: 8/17/06

I’m Off!

I fly out for Lake Okanagan in one week. Ironman Canada 2006 will be August 27th, next Sunday.

I’m feeling pretty good. After 2500 miles on the bike, 600 miles of running, and 100 miles of swimming, Achilles tendonitis, swimmer’s ear, and a bout with heat rash, I’ll just be lucky to finish. I have to say the hardest part of this year has been just staying consistent and I hope it pays off. I apologize for being cranky and tired during the taper the last two weeks, and especially next week…

On race day you can track my progress at:

Ironman Live!

Just click on this link, find Ironman Canada under events, and do an athlete search under my name, or just type in my bib # 274. It will post split times, as well as the halfway point on the bike and the run. You can also see me cross the line if you watch – I’m thinking somewhere around 13-14 hours, or 8:00 -9:00 pm Sunday night but anything can happen. The race starts at 7:00 am.

I've raised $7700 so far for blood cancer research this year. My thanks go out to over 100 people who have donated in the last year.

I am training to participate in this endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. I want to thank you in advance for the financial contribution you are about to make- your dollars really make a difference. Just look at the progress contributions to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society have made over the years:

SURVIVAL RATES
Leukemia
1960-63: 14%
1974-76: 35%
1995-2000: 48%

Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
1960-63: 31%
1974-76: 48%
1995-2000: 60%

Hodgkin Lymphoma
1960-63: 40%
1974-76: 72%
1995-2000: 86%

Myeloma
1960-63: 6%
1974-76: 24%
1995-2000: 32%

Now consider each dollar you donate bringing these survival percentages that much closer to a day in which these diseases will no longer take another life.

This is also in loving memory of my grandparents Bill and Madeline Toweill. Bill passed away February 3rd 2006.

Thanks for your support and go long!
