Racing to Save Lives

I'm trying to raise $3000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by participating in the Escape from the Rock Triathlon as a member of Team in Training. Team In Training raises funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. You can donate right now by clicking the Donate Now link below to your left, or read on for more information.

I've never participated in a triathlon before. Quite honestly, it's fairly daunting. Nonetheless, on June 24, I'm going to ride a ferry out to Alcatraz, jump off the boat into the icy San Francisco Bay, swim 1.5 miles against a current to the San Francisco shoreline, run 2.5 miles, bike another 13, and finish up with a 10K run along Baker Beach that climbs up a massive Pacific cliffside on a trail called "the sand ladder." I know; it's completely insane.

But I'm doing it in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers, most especially a friend of mine who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia last year and has been bravely fighting it ever since. These people are the real heroes on our team, and they need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure. Because the ultimate goal is not for me to cross a finish line, but rather to raise both money and awareness.

In 2006, the Society invested $61.6 million to support more than 480 researchers and projects in 15 countries on five continents. With your help, we can up that total for 2007. Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.

If you can't afford to make a donation, please consider registering with the National Marrow Donor Program, it's easy, painless, and you can do it at home. All you need to do is simply swipe the inside of your cheek with a cotton swab, and send it to the registry. If you've already registered, please take a moment to make sure that your contact information is up-to-date.
