Pedals vs. Cancer
One Bike. One Man. Lots of Body Parts.
This summer, I will be participating in a Team In Training-sponsored fundraising event called America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride. The ride will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and donations to this cause will go directly to patient services and research in the battle against blood cancers.
The ride itself is a 100-mile course around Lake Tahoe on June 3rd, and I have committed to training and raising my stated goal of $3,000 in order to participate in this worthwhile event.
Dick Goddard, a very dear friend of mine, succumbed to lymphoma in 2005. He was a strong, healthy man who should have lived twice as long as he did, and even when he fell ill he continued to show constant concern for the well-being of his family and friends. His compassion and caring towards others was boundless, and I am asking for your help as I ride in his honor, trying to do something I think he’d be proud of.
A century is a tough distance to ride, and as I approach 30 years of age my body certainly has its objections. Between a titanium ankle, a balky knee and a fierce addiction to rich foods, there are various demons that I will be exorcising while I’m exercising. Nevertheless, I plan to finish this ride stronger and healthier than I have been for a long time, and you can sponsor a specific part of my body for the donation level of your choosing. I will write your name or the name of someone you’d like me to ride in honor of on your chosen piece of real estate for the duration of the ride, so be sure and reserve your space now! Information for each body part will be posted on my blog.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is there to support the more than 145,000 Americans diagnosed with blood cancers each year. Their efforts are saving lives right now, and they continue to fund research that will eventually help make these tragic diseases a thing of the past. Please give what you can, and I sincerely thank you for your support.
Warm Regards,
Matt Glaser
