Mika's Team In Training Page - Spring 2006
Swimming, Riding and Running to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I have joined Team In Training again to raise fund for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)* and to compete in Wildflower Triathlon at Lake San Antonio State Park, CA, on May 6th.
As many of you know, I have done this race before. Last year, I completed the olympic distance race (1 mile swim, 25 miles ride, and 6 miles run)! This year, I aspire to challenge myself and complete the long course (Half-Iron distance, i.e. 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile ride and 13 mile run). This however depends on the successful recovery from frustrating IT band injury. I have been making great progress so far, with great deal of patience and careful training.
I train and fundraise for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society because I embrace their mission as my own: To cure blood cancers such as Leukemia, Lymphoma, Myeloma, and Hodgkin¹s disease, and to improve life of patients and their family. I support their mission because someone is diagnosed with a cancer everyday, and it claims life of someone's loved one everyday. LLS funds research that makes difference. For example:
* 25 years ago, only 5% of children with Leukemia survived. Today, 75% of them will live.
* Gleevec, the key drug in treating blood cancers, was developed in large part with funding by LLS.
* Research sponsored by LLS has also been the catalyst for effective treatments of non-blood cancers, including breast and lung cancer.
Every dollar makes the difference. So please join me and support LLS by making 100% tax-deductible contribution and help advance the Society's mission.
Thank you for your support and generosity!
Mika
