Saving one life at a time . . . starting with mine !!!
I was diagnosed at the age of 40 with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL), an incurable form of leukemia . . . today.
All I knew at the time was that I was really young to get CLL, I was stage O and because of that there was very little to do but sit and wait to get sick. That has been the most difficult thing to accept - and one of the primary reasons I'm now involved with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Team in Training. I feel like I’m proactively doing something for my health and to help find a cure for folks like myself.
Since my diagnosis I have successfully completed the Treasure Island Triathlon, Wildflower Olympic and the Wildflower half Ironman. I’ve gone from being completely un-athletic to somewhat an athlete. Perhaps that's why I think I can complete an ironman. It's only a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile marathon, all in one day, as fast as I can.
As for my health, nothing has changed since my diagnosis. I continue to go for check-ups every six months and try and live as healthy a life as I can.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.
Thanks for your support!
