Amy Fischer's Team In Training Page
Changing Lives, One Mile at a Time.
Welcome to my Team In Training home page. Last October I competed in what I consider to be the ultimate endurance event: the Nike Women’s Marathon, 26.2 miles of running. With the support of the Team In Training program and from generous donations from friends like you, I made it to the finish line raising over $5,000 to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This year, motivated by the loss of my honoree Brenda, I have returned to the Team In Training program to mentor other participants and to compete in the Nike Women’s Half Marathon on October 21, 2007. Brenda was known to be “freakishly strong” and even though she was very ill and very weak from her treatments, she made the trip to San Francisco to cheer on all of the TNT participants at the Nike Marathon. My cover photo was taken at mile 11 on the course when I saw her. She was holding a sign that said “TNT: I am alive because of you.” It was her message that allowed me to find the strength to finish the grueling last five miles of the marathon. 110 days after her transplant Brenda suffered from rare complication that caused her lung capacity to be reduced to 20 percent of normal. She battled it bravely, but sadly Brenda passed away on April 14, 2007. Brenda leaves behind a husband and two spirited boys (Trevor, age 9 and Jarrett, age 6). Brenda’s positive attitude, love for life and amazing spirit left an impression that those who knew her won’t ever forget. On the positive side, my other honoree and friend, Jennifer Dansby is officially cancer free. After enduring her transplant and chemo treatments her Pet scan came back cancer free. Her beautiful daughter Olivia is doing well. This is great news, and is just further confirmation that the medical progress of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is helping to save lives everyday. Please join me in supporting this mission by making a donation today! - Amy
