Crazy and on a Mission
As many of you know, over two years ago I made a decision to accomplish my goal of completing a triathlon. Since then I have completed 10 more races which have included 3 half-ironman distances (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run). Deemed and noted as crazy, yet dedicated, I have committed myself to another challenge, completing an Ironman. Yes, you heard me right. In August of 2006, I will be swimming 2.4 miles, cycling 112 miles and running a full marathon all in one day. It is a tough task and I am up to the challenge. There are many others out there that face even tougher challenges in life, ones that they do not choose.
As part of this challenge, I have become a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this Ironman not only in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers, but also those that are battling all types of cancer. Many of you many not be aware of this, but my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002. Fortunately she is now living cancer free and I am counting the days until she is fully considered in remission. I am thankful for all the funding and research that has been done to this day that has kept my mother and all others who have been afflicted any type of cancer alive. My challenge of completing an Ironman lasts for only a day, but for those battling cancer, it lasts their whole life until there is a cure.
