UPDATE October 4: Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've met my goal of raising $4,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Of course donations are still gladly accepted. It takes $100,000 to fund one research grant and you are helping make it possible to find better treatments and cures for blood cancers. Thank you! Now, on to the race...
For those who know me, it's probably hard to believe that I'm actually doing this, yet here I am, training to participate in the Nike Women's Half Marathon (that's 13.1 miles!) as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. Last December I started a weekly running program with a couple of friends. Now four 5K races later, I can run (jog!) 3 miles without walking and I'm training for a half marathon!
All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this event in honor of my brother-in-law and all individuals who are battling blood cancers. I just found out my grandmother died from leukemia. It was many years ago and I wasn't aware or don't remember that it was the cause of her death. As I proceed with this endeavor, I'm learning of more and more people with whom I'm connected in some way who are battling these cancers.
These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
The Nike Women's Half Marathon is in October in San Francisco. I've got a lot of money to raise and 75% of your donation goes directly to the cause. Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.

July 25 UPDATE: I'm up to 2 hours and 9.5 miles. It is tough and I've had to walk on hills. Next week I'll be in Canada to see Michael and his family. I plan on getting a few runs in while I'm there.
August 26 UPDATE: I finally passed the 10 mile mark in a 2.5 hour run! Read all about it.
