Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I am training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.
I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
My progress:
Saturday, June 9th: I signed up with Team in Training (1 month behind). I trained with the team and ran 4 miles. It was a rough run since we started around 9:30. The summer sun was pretty hot by 10:00am.
Monday, June 11th: I meet a friend and we tried to run 3 miles. The trail is really nice and mostly in the shade.
Wednesday, June 13th: I met my friend again and we tried to run 3 miles. We mostly walked but got 4 miles in today!
Friday, June 15th: My friend Kris and I went running. I knew he was behind me, so I was running a little faster. He said our first mile was about 10 minutes! WOW! I usually run a 12 minute mile.
Sunday, June 17th: What a morning! Leha, Kris and I ran in a 5k race. This race was special because most of the participants were disabled with a prostetic limb(s). Some of the participants were veterans that served in Iraq. It was amazing their determination to run the race! Fox 5 news even ran a story about the race!!
Monday, June 18th: Kris and I went running around some soccer fields off the East/West connector. We ran and walked for an hour!
Thursday, June 21st: Kris and I returned to the soccer fields, but we had to run a little earlier today. IT IS HOT at 5:00!!! We ran about 30 minutes before we decided it is to hot to run when the temperature is 100!!
Saturday, June 23rd: I went out with the Team in Training group. I had a good run. I ran 4 miles in 45 minutes! I guess it is a little easier running in the morning than the hot evenings.
Sunday, June 24th: Kris and I met about 7:30am and ran 3 times around Arbor Place mall. We had a good pace and ran 4 miles.
Wednesday, June 27th: Got my MP3 player and took off around the neighborhood. I took Lily (dog) with me and she lasted the first mile. It got to a point I was almost dragging her, so I brought her back to the house and took off to finish another 2 miles.
Saturday, June 30th: I meet the team at the church and I ran with Lynn (music teacher at my school). She is running with Marathon and was suppose to run a few more miles than me, but decided to do a short run. We ran 4 miles. Then Team in Training had a social gathering at the Chessecake Factory! What a treat after a run! It was great to meet some of the team and talk to some other people to see how they are raising their money.
Tuesday, July 3th: All my running friends seem to be out of town, so I took off around the neighborhood again. I ran 3 miles...boring since I just run around the same path over and over!
Wednesday, July 11th: I took an unexpected vacation from running. I went to the beach with some friends and put running on the back burner :( My friends Kris and I went running this evening on a golf course behind Shannon's hosue. WOW! It was full of hills! It was a good workout even if I did have to walk up the mountains (hills). I don't think we will go back to the golf course and run!
Saturday, July 14th: Kris decided to join me for the Group Training Session (GTS). We took a new route around Buckhead that included some hills. Overall we did 4 miles. Our patient hero, Rebecca, was at our GTS.
Saturday, July 21st: The first 5 mile run! TNT added some nice hills to the course!
Tuesday, July 24th: While on vacation at Lake Jordan I decided to run up to the road and back a few times for a little over 3 mile run. It was great to spend some time with family and friends back on the lake!
Saturday, August 25th ; Please forgive me for not keeping my log up to date! School has started and has taken all my spare time :( Saturday was a hot and muggy Atlanta day and we ran 8 miles. I must admit I walked some of it. Hopefully this week I will get to run more often, so next Staurday should be a better run!
WHOO HOOO I made my goal! THANKS to everyone that has supported me in reaching my fundraising goal! You have made a difference in someones life!!
