Racing to Save Lives
Dear friends, family, coworkers, college teammates, fellowship buddies, coaches, teachers, turtle zealots, and people who LIVE to see others smile:
Today marks a brand new day. A day to laugh a little harder, to love a little more, to be just that extra bit patient, and today is a day to help others. Each and everyday is a blessing and I feel privileged my body is able to perform such incredible physical feats that may seem so simple as riding a bike. I truly believe if we are gifted with 2 working arms and 2 functional feet (and a heartbeat), we can do almost anything! This is why I have decided to train for a triathlon! I joined Team In Training (TNT), an amazing group that functions for the sole purpose of supporting those inflicted with leukemia and lymphomatic cancers through fundraising efforts generated by people who want to physically fight to end cancer.
Unfortunately, cancer is in the world and an estimated 110,960 new cases of blood cancers will be diagnosed nationwide this year alone; some 55,100 patients will die. I am certain that one fine day we will find a cure for these debilitating diseases. So that is why I am asking for everyone to give something. My goal for this event is $3,900. Piece of cake and 100% tax deductible! I know that for some of you, like myself, are paying back student loans or just now trying to save, so I ask you all for you spiritual support and any loose change! The rest of you I really hope you can support my involvement with TNT as this year I am racing for an 8 year old boy named Trey who is in 3rd grade and diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL).
As many of you know, in spring of 2002, my Mom was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and has been in remission, by the grace of God, since fall of 2002! Maybe it was her infectious zeal for life that urged her to fight cancer, but I also think it was the people that continually fought with her!
On May 25th 2008, I will be participating in the Capital of Texas Triathlon located in Austin, TX. I am really thrilled about this life long aspiration and feel even more fulfilled by doing it for someone elses sake. Following the completion of this event, I look forward to seeing Trey at the finish line knowing that in even just a small way I was able to help him live a better and normal life. In addition, I will be racing for my Mom, and inspirational friends Elaine Stevens, Debi Brown, Ashley Kincaid, and Tonia Schmidt, all of whom are also battling cancer or another disease.
The absolute easiest way to send your support is by donating online at my webpage. Again, thank you to everyone for your time and I hope you are inspired to help the people who inspire us to live our lives to the fullest!
