Racing to Save Lives

This is my honored hero AJ Avello.

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I am training to participate in the Atlanta Half Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.

I'm completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers, especially the Atlanta Half team's honored hero AJ Avello. AJ was diagnosed in 2003 with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL). He turned 13 on Jan. 21, 2007. His parents, Charles and Nancy, say that he has demonstrated a positive attitude throughout his treatment. AJ also has an older sister named Jacqueline. AJ enjoys basketball, baseball, hockey, video games and card collecting. Unfortunatly he relapsed in 2007. As of October 29th AJ is back in the hospital doing his third round of chemotherapy. We are all praying for his speedy recovery. AJ and all the other people fighting blood cancers are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

The Atlanta Half Marathon takes place Thanksgiving Day. I began my training in mid August in some lovely 100+ degree temperatures. On the 27th we did our 10 mile training run. Lucky for us we had a beautiful crisp fall day, quite cold at the start. It wasn't too hard, but my legs were fairly numb by the end of it. This will be a real challenge for me, but it is nothing compared to what some people are going through to fight a blood cancer.

The best news I have is at the top of this page! After my event at the Five Spot I increased my goal from $1500 to $2500! Thanks to all of my donors and all of the people who helped me with my event I should have no trouble reaching my new goal. Thank you everyone!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.

I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!

P.S. As I mentioned above my fundraising event that included music, art, and film screening was a great sucess! The event Rock Roll Run was held Sunday October 21st. Special thanks to Kirk and everyone at the The Five Spot in Little Five Points where it was held. Also thank you to Doug Paul and Nathan Sexton two excellent solo acoustic artists, Marshall Chiles who did some hilarious comedy and Black Light District Black Light District who rocked! And of course The Four Eyed Monsters who generously donated the screening so all proceeds will go towards my fundraising for LLS. And very special thanks to Sandra Verhine who kept it all running smoothly.

I the artists donated some wonderful art work and I sold most of it! Thank you to all the artists.

Thanks! Beth
