Cam on the Run
My journey to 26 and our chance to save some lives!
Welcome to my Team In Training Georgia ING Marathon page!
This November, I joined The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program to run the first ever Georgia ING Marathon right here in Atlanta. My 26.2 mile journey will end March 25 and I am committed to preparing and training for this challenge everyday until then.
Beyond the endless amounts of running to train my body, I will be raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers and, specifically, for my Honored Hero Rebecca McCain (pictured). Along side my fellow teammates that are out running with me every Saturday, Rebecca acts as our inspiration and motivation to keep training, keep our eye on the prize (ie-the Finish Line) and keep working towards our fundraising goals. I have made a committment to raise $1,700 and am asking for your support to help me meet that goal. All donations are 100% tax deductible. If you would like to send a check, please make it out to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and mail it to me at: Cami Simmons, 67 Lannon Avenue, Atlanta GA 30317, otherwise click "Donate Now!" on the left side of the page. Your donation will go a long way to helping advance the Society's mission of funding blood cancer research.
I hope you'll visit my web site often. I'm planning to post updates on my progress so you can follow my struggles and successes throughout my training. Even if you can't support me monetarily, any encouragement you can give will be greatly appreciated...26 miles is a LONG way and there will be times I won't believe I can do it! For all you Atlanta folks...please mark March 25 on your calendar and plan to spend the day cheering on all the runners. It would be so awesome if someone I knew was cheering me on at each and every mile!
Recent Long Runs Accomplished (okay...so they're not that long yet, but just wait!):
1/20 - Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 9 miles. Rebecca McClain was at the first water stop cheering us on.
1/13 - Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 8 miles. Officially the longest distance I have ever run.
1/6 - Chattahoochee River, 7 miles. First run of 2007 and longest distance ever run with Charles.
12/30 - Patriot Park (Pigeon Forge, TN), 6 miles. Ran into a flock of screaming ducks.
12/23 - Chattahoochee River, 6 miles. Bumped into my great friend Steph at the end of her 8 mile run.
12/16 - Washington Park (Denver, CO), 5 miles. With the altitude it felt more like 15!
12/9 - Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 5 miles. My first c-o-l-d run.
