Racing to Save Lives
6/4/08 - We reached the goal!!! I want to THANK YOU ALL for contributing and putting up with my constant emails! Your donations have all added up to make a huge impact on the lives of families affected by leukemia & lymphoma. Your support has not only helped them but also inspired me to keep going. I can't thank you all enough!!
Now it's time to face the next challenge... the event! June 22nd will be here before I know it! The countdown is on...
5/28/08 - I swam a mile straight this weekend! It's so hard to believe that a few months ago, I couldn't even swim with the proper form. This whole experience has changed me in so many ways...
So close to goal - 96% of the way there! - and 3 1/2 weeks until the event! We're almost there!
4/29/08 - That's right, it's time for another fundraiser! This one could win you $50+! Here's how it works...
Submit your guess of how long you think it will take me to complete this endurance event - swim .9 mile, bike 25 miles, run 6.2 miles. Each guess must be accompanied by a $5 minimum donation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The closest guess without going over wins at least $50! (The final prize is dependant on the generosity of the donations of this fundraiser - in other words, it can be more than $50 if more is collected than expected)
You can email your time guess to me at speneda@yahoo.com. You can submit your donation right here on this site, mail me a check, or give me cash. All entries must be received by MAY 16th. We will find out my actual time once I complete the event on June 22nd.
Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck!
4/13/08 - I ran 7 miles straight today! I don't think I've ever done that in my life! I feel great and the training continues on...
4/7/08 - March Madness results are in and the winner is Mike Barth! Congrats to Mike and thank you all for contributing a total of $325 to The LLS from the March Madness fundraiser - reaching the $1,500 mark - halfway to the $3,000 goal! woohoo!
Week #10 is coming around the corner and I'm still going strong. Surprisingly the swim and bike are becoming my strong sports while my running is lagging a bit. I still have a few more weeks to everything up to speed but so far so good. My enthusiasm for the cause is still there!
Please continue to contribute and let others know about the cause! Your donation will help save lives and support families that are fighting these blood-related cancers. Please remember, no donation is too small!
3/18/08 - MARCH MADNESS BRACKETS - Please email me at speneda@yahoo.com if you would like to participate the March Madness NCAA Men's Basketball Pool. There is a $5 entry that goes towards the jackpot for the winner and a suggested donation of $5 towards my Team in Training goal. So before you think about entering your generic office pool, please consider this one first, since it is for a cause! Please email me for further information on how to enter the pool and please invite your friends too! Entries are due by 3/20 at 11am.
3/3/08 - As I wrap up my first month of training, I look back and think, "What have I gotten myself into?!" haha Not really. So far it has been a very positive and inspiring experience! Sure, waking up at 5am to body soreness and continuing to train anyway may seem discouraging, but when I remember what our team heroes (local fighters/survivors of these diseases) have to push through, my struggles don't seem that bad. Eventually my body will get used to the constant beat up, right?!
One top of that, I'm inspired by seeing all these generous donations come pouring in! That support is unbelievable - we've reached 30% of the goal already!! Thank you so much to all of you that have contributed! If we keep up this pace, we'll reach the $3,000 goal in no time! Please continue to pass this along to anyone else that you feel may want to contribute to the cause.
2/5/08 - Thank you for visiting my Team In Training home page.
I am training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm competing in the Philadelphia Insurance Triathelon on June 22nd in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.
I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
