"Help Fight the Battle!" Lizzete Hartz April 2005
Hi and welcome to Lizzie’s memorial fund raising site. I would like to introduce you to Lizzete (Lizzie) Hartz. Lizzie is the big sister of my son’s best friend Danny. Lizzie contracted Leukemia when she was just two-years-old. After treatment the Leukemia went into remission. Unfortunately Lizzie’s Leukemia returned in 2003 and again in 2004. Lizzie relentlessly fought the disease with her ever-positive attitude, through chemotherapy, radiation, and even a bone marrow transplant. Lizzie was full of dreams, among them were: to stop the pain caused by her Leukemia, to find a cure for Leukemia and to go to Walt Disney World. Unfortunately, Lizzie died in April 2005 before a cure could be found and never having made it to Walt Disney World. This prompted me to take action. My name is Mike Bandru and I am training to run in the Walt Disney World Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. My goals are to help Lizzie fulfill two of her dreams by raising at least $4,000 to help in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s quest for a cure and to take Lizzie’s spirit with me to Walt Disney World. I will complete the Walt Disney World Marathon on January 8, 2006 and show Lizzie the magic within the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s MGM studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. I am also dedicating my efforts to all of the individuals who are currently battling blood cancers. Lizzie and these people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
